Can I take the Wegovy pill every other day?

The label describes one schedule, once daily, and no other. It does not study, allow or forbid an every other day plan. Some telehealth prescribers write one, and if yours did, that is the schedule to follow. In a model built on the label's half-life, an alternating schedule gives a level that dips and climbs by about 9 percent every other day and settles at roughly half of the daily level for the same tablet.

The short answer

The label describes one schedule, once daily, and no other. It does not study, allow or forbid an every other day plan. Some telehealth prescribers write one, and if yours did, that is the schedule to follow. In a model built on the label's half-life, an alternating schedule gives a level that dips and climbs by about 9 percent every other day and settles at roughly half of the daily level for the same tablet.

What the label says

From the label

Take WEGOVY tablets orally once-daily on an empty stomach in the morning with water (up to 4 ounces).

That is the only schedule in the prescribing information. The escalation section counts days on each strength on the assumption of a tablet every day. There is no sentence about alternate days, no study of it, and no warning against it either. The label is simply silent.

Where the idea comes from

Two places. The first is the stomach: on a hard step, some people skip days to let the nausea pass. The label's answer to that is a longer stay on the previous step, decided by the prescriber. The second is the price: a bottle that lasts sixty days instead of thirty. The label has no answer to that at all.

Some telehealth services do write alternate day schedules. A plan that stops at 4 mg on the same tablet exists, and Oolite accepts it in onboarding because a prescription is a prescription. What the app never does is suggest one.

What the model shows

Semaglutide's one week half-life makes an alternating schedule less dramatic than it sounds and less tidy than daily dosing. In the model, the level drops about 9 percent on the day without a tablet and climbs back the next morning, a sawtooth around a plateau that sits well below the daily plateau for the same strength. Whether that lower plateau is enough for a given person is not a question a model answers.

What people actually do

"Every other day" is one of the most discussed practices on the forums, with over a hundred posts in two months, and the reasons are the two above. People compare notes on whether it holds the appetite, describe the return of hunger on the off day, and argue about whether the one week half-life makes it harmless. Others answer that once daily is what the label says and that the effect drops.

Oolite follows the schedule the prescriber wrote, draws the level it implies, and keeps the count honest. It does not have an opinion on the schedule, and on this question neither does this page.

Questions people ask

Is 4 mg every other day the same as 1.5 mg every day?

Not by the label, which does not describe either as a substitute for the other, and not in the model, where 4 mg on alternate days averages a higher amount than 1.5 mg daily but with a sawtooth instead of a plateau. Only your prescriber can say which schedule is yours.

My prescriber wrote 4 mg every other day. Is that wrong?

It is a prescription, and this page is not in a position to call it anything. The label describes once daily; a prescriber may decide otherwise for a given person. Follow the schedule you were given and bring questions to the person who wrote it.

Can I do it on my own to save money?

The label does not describe it, and changing a schedule on your own is not something this page will encourage. The price question is real, and it is a conversation for the prescriber and the pharmacist.

What does the level chart show on an alternating schedule?

A sawtooth: down about 9 percent on the day without a tablet, back up on the next, around a lower plateau than daily dosing. Oolite draws the schedule you enter, whatever it is.
