Missed doses

What if I missed a dose of the Wegovy pill?

Skip it and take the next dose the following morning. The label is one sentence long on this, and it never says to double up. One missed day lowers the modelled level by a little under a tenth, in a model built on the label's half-life.

The short answer

Skip it and take the next dose the following morning. The label is one sentence long on this, and it never says to double up. One missed day lowers the modelled level by a little under a tenth, in a model built on the label's half-life.

What the label says

From the label

If a dose of WEGOVY tablets is missed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose the following day.

That is the whole instruction. The label adds one more line in its administration section: do not take more than one tablet per day.

What one day does to the level

Semaglutide leaves the body slowly. The label gives an elimination half-life of about one week, and says the drug is still present five to seven weeks after the last tablet.

That slowness is what makes a missed day a small event. In a simple model with a one week half-life, the level drops by about 9 percent over a day without a tablet. The next morning's tablet adds its usual share, and the gap then halves each week. This is a model from the label's numbers, not a measurement of anyone's blood, and it is the model Oolite draws.

The picture is different for a longer gap. After two weeks without tablets the model keeps about a quarter of the level, after three weeks about an eighth, and the label has nothing to say about restarting. That is a conversation for the prescriber.

What people actually do

The missed dose that people describe most is not forgetting. It is the morning that went wrong: coffee before the tablet, a late breakfast, a travel day. Many count it as a missed dose and move on, which is what the label describes.

The other pattern is the deliberate skip, a day off to let the stomach settle, or an every other day schedule. The label does not describe either. Both belong to the prescriber, and Oolite follows the schedule it is given.

Questions people ask

I remembered at lunch. Can I still take it today?

The label says the tablet is taken in the morning on an empty stomach, and that a missed dose is skipped. Taking it at lunch, after food, is neither. Skip it and take tomorrow's as usual.

Can I take two tomorrow to catch up?

No. The label says to take the next dose the following day, one tablet. The manufacturer's patient page adds it plainly: do not take two doses in one day.

I missed several days in a row. Do I start over at 1.5 mg?

The label describes a single missed dose. For several days, it says nothing, and the injection's rule about restarting at a lower dose is written for the injection, not the tablet. Ask your prescriber before restarting.

Does one missed day undo the week?

Not in a model built on the label's half-life. Semaglutide has a half-life of about a week, so one day without a tablet lowers the level by about 9 percent, and the gap then halves each week.
