How much water should I take the Wegovy pill with?
Up to 4 ounces of plain water, and nothing else. The label sets a ceiling, not a target, because a larger glass measurably lowered how much of the tablet was absorbed in the manufacturer's tests.

The short answer
Up to 4 ounces of plain water, and nothing else. The label sets a ceiling, not a target, because a larger glass measurably lowered how much of the tablet was absorbed in the manufacturer's tests.
What the label says
From the labelTake WEGOVY tablets orally once-daily on an empty stomach in the morning with water (up to 4 ounces). Do not take with other liquids besides water.
Four ounces is about 120 millilitres, roughly a third of a standard glass. The label does not ask for that much. It asks for no more than that.
What the manufacturer measured
The manufacturer tested the tablet with three volumes of water in healthy volunteers: 50 mL, 120 mL and 240 mL.
With 240 mL, a full glass, exposure was about 40 percent lower than with 50 mL. With 120 mL, it was the same as with 50 mL. That is where the 4 ounce ceiling comes from: up to 120 mL changes nothing, a full glass does.
The label summarises it in one line in the pharmacology section: no clinically significant differences with 50 mL or 120 mL of water.
What people actually do
Most people take the tablet with a sip or two. Some keep a shot glass on the nightstand, which holds about 45 mL, and fill it once. The question that comes up most is whether two big gulps count as more than 4 ounces. They do not: two gulps are well under 120 mL.
The other thing people notice is that the tablet has a taste, and that the temptation is to wash it down with more water. The label's answer is the same: a small amount, plain water, then the 30 minutes.
Questions people ask
Is 4 ounces a minimum or a maximum?
A maximum. The label says water up to 4 ounces. A sip is enough to swallow the tablet.
What about the water I drank during the night?
The label speaks of the water you take the tablet with, and of an empty stomach. It does not describe water drunk earlier. If you usually drink a lot at night, mention it to your prescriber.
Can I drink water during the 30 minutes after?
The label says to wait at least 30 minutes before drinking beverages. Water is not listed as an exception after the tablet, so the safe reading is to wait.
Does sparkling water count as water?
The label says plain water and no other liquids. Sparkling water is not described. Plain still water is the reading that matches the label.
