How much is 4 ounces of water, without a measuring cup?
About 120 millilitres, a third of a standard glass, or a little under three shot glasses. The label says up to 4 ounces, a ceiling rather than a target, and the manufacturer found that 120 mL and 50 mL gave the same absorption while a full 240 mL glass gave about 40 percent less.

The short answer
About 120 millilitres, a third of a standard glass, or a little under three shot glasses. The label says up to 4 ounces, a ceiling rather than a target, and the manufacturer found that 120 mL and 50 mL gave the same absorption while a full 240 mL glass gave about 40 percent less.
What the label says
From the labelTake WEGOVY tablets orally once-daily on an empty stomach in the morning with water (up to 4 ounces).
Four US fluid ounces is 118 millilitres, call it 120. A standard American drinking glass holds about 12 ounces, so 4 ounces is a third of it. A shot glass holds 1.5 ounces, so 4 ounces is a little under three shots.
Where the ceiling comes from
The manufacturer gave the tablet to volunteers with three volumes of water: 50 mL, 120 mL and 240 mL. The label summarises the result in one sentence: no clinically significant differences with 50 mL or 120 mL. The third arm, a full glass, gave about 40 percent less exposure. The label's ceiling sits exactly at the volume where nothing had changed yet.
That is why the instruction reads up to 4 ounces and not 4 ounces. Less is fine. More costs.
What people actually do
The shot glass is the forum's favourite measure: one on the nightstand, filled the night before, enough to swallow a small tablet. Some people use the cap of a water bottle, which holds about a teaspoon and is enough for many. The question that comes up most is whether two big gulps count as more than 4 ounces. They do not; a big gulp is around an ounce.
The other question is the sip of water taken in the night, hours before the tablet. The label does not describe it; it speaks of the water the tablet is taken with and of an empty stomach. People who wake thirsty at three and take the tablet at six are in territory the label does not map, and it is worth a mention to the prescriber.
Oolite does not measure water. It keeps the morning's other rule, the 30 minutes, on the phone and the watch.
Questions people ask
Is a shot glass 4 ounces?
No. A standard US shot glass holds 1.5 ounces, about 45 mL. Four ounces is a little under three of them. Many people keep a single shot glass by the bed because one is plenty to swallow the tablet with.
What if I take less than 4 ounces?
That is fine. The label says up to 4 ounces. The manufacturer tested 50 mL, less than 2 ounces, and it worked the same as 120 mL.
What if I take a bit more?
The manufacturer tested 240 mL, a full glass, and absorption was about 40 percent lower. The label's ceiling sits where the loss begins.
Does the temperature matter?
The label says plain water and nothing about temperature. Cold, room temperature, or warm from the tap are all water.
