Foundayo, pregnancy and breastfeeding

The label says to stop Foundayo when a pregnancy is recognized, that weight loss offers no benefit in pregnancy and may harm the fetus, and that Foundayo is not recommended while nursing. It also has the 30-day contraception rule for people on the birth control pill. A pregnancy registry exists, and the prescriber is the first call.

The short answer

The label says to stop Foundayo when a pregnancy is recognized, that weight loss offers no benefit in pregnancy and may harm the fetus, and that Foundayo is not recommended while nursing. It also has the 30-day contraception rule for people on the birth control pill. A pregnancy registry exists, and the prescriber is the first call.

What the label says

Three passages from the section on specific populations.

On pregnancy:

From the label

Weight loss offers no benefit to a pregnant patient and may cause fetal harm. When a pregnancy is recognized, advise the pregnant patient of the risk to a fetus and discontinue FOUNDAYO.

The label adds that there are no adequate studies of Foundayo in pregnancy, that animal studies suggest there may be risks, and that a pregnancy exposure registry monitors outcomes. Its number is 1-800-LillyRx, 1-800-545-5979.

On breastfeeding:

From the label

FOUNDAYO is not recommended for nursing women.

The reasoning is stated: no data in human milk, orforglipron present in the milk of rats, and when a drug is in animal milk it is likely in human milk.

On contraception, the rule that surprises people: a non-oral or barrier method for 30 days after starting and for 30 days after each dose increase, for anyone using an oral contraceptive.

What the label does not say

It sets no waiting period before a planned pregnancy, unlike the Wegovy label's two months. The label gives no reason. With a half-life of 29 to 49 hours, Foundayo is largely gone within about a week. Whether and when to stop before trying is still the prescriber's call, and the label leaves it there.

What people actually do

The contraception rule is the one people discover late, often from the pharmacist. The pregnancy paragraph is the one nobody wants to need, and the label's instruction is simple: stop, tell the prescriber, and let them enrol you in the registry if they think it right.

Oolite records the last tablet and draws the level falling over the following days. Everything else on this page belongs to the prescriber.

Questions people ask

How long before trying to conceive should I stop?

The Foundayo label does not set a waiting period the way the Wegovy label sets two months. Its half-life is 29 to 49 hours, so the drug is largely gone within about a week of the last tablet. The decision and the timing are your prescriber's.

I found out I am pregnant while on Foundayo. What does the label say?

It says that when a pregnancy is recognized, the patient should be advised of the risk to a fetus and Foundayo discontinued. Call your prescriber today. The manufacturer runs a pregnancy exposure registry at 1-800-LillyRx.

Can I breastfeed on Foundayo?

The label says Foundayo is not recommended for nursing women. There are no data in human milk; orforglipron was found in the milk of rats, and the label reasons that it is likely present in human milk.

Why does the label talk about birth control pills?

Because Foundayo can change how an oral contraceptive is absorbed, especially around a dose change. The label asks for a non-oral or barrier method for 30 days after starting and after each dose increase.
