The short answer
Approved by the FDA on December 22, 2025, in US pharmacies in January 2026, past three million prescriptions by June 2026 according to the manufacturer, and joined in its first year by Foundayo in April and by Ozempic tablets in May, when Rybelsus was retired. Here are the dates that shaped the pill's first year, with the documents behind each.
The dates
December 22, 2025. The FDA approves Wegovy tablets, 25 mg once daily, for weight management in adults, the first oral GLP-1 for that indication. The manufacturer's release the same day describes the pivotal trial and the tablet's morning rules.
January 2026. The tablet reaches US pharmacies. The first month's forums fill with the coffee question.
April 1, 2026. The FDA approves Foundayo, orforglipron, a non-peptide GLP-1 tablet with no food or water rules, in six strengths. It reaches pharmacies within the week.
May 4, 2026. Rybelsus is retired in the United States and replaced by Ozempic tablets, the same semaglutide tablet under new dose numbers, for type 2 diabetes.
June 2026. The manufacturer announces more than three million Wegovy pill prescriptions filled, roughly one every five seconds, and says about a third of all Wegovy prescriptions are now for the tablet. The same month, the Wegovy prescribing information is revised, the version quoted on every page of this site.
What the year changed for someone on the pill
A year ago there was one daily GLP-1 tablet in the United States, for diabetes. Now there are three products and two molecules, with two different rulebooks: the semaglutide tablets with their morning ritual, and Foundayo with none. The switching rules between forms are written in the labels, the half-lives are known, and the questions people ask have settled into a pattern that this site is built to answer, one at a time, from the label.
What this page does not do
It does not forecast the next approval, the next price, or the next trial. It records what has happened, from the documents that record it, and it will be updated the day the next one arrives.
Oolite followed the same year: built for the Wegovy pill, it took on Foundayo in the spring and mapped Rybelsus to Ozempic tablets in May. The rules on the screen are the labels' rules, revision by revision.
