Missed doses

What if I missed a dose of Ozempic tablets?

Skip it. The label says to skip the missed dose and take the next one the following day, at the usual morning time, with the usual rules. Never two tablets the next day: the label says no more than one tablet per day.

The short answer

Skip it. The label says to skip the missed dose and take the next one the following day, at the usual morning time, with the usual rules. Never two tablets the next day: the label says no more than one tablet per day.

What the label says

The rule is one line in the dosing section, shared by Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets:

From the label

If a dose is missed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose the following day.

Two lines above it, the limit that makes the rule safe:

From the label

Do not take more than one tablet per day.

The Medication Guide, the leaflet written for patients, says the same thing in plainer words: skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.

Why not take it later in the day

The tablet is tested and labelled for one moment: on an empty stomach in the morning, with up to 4 ounces of water, then at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medications. Taken after breakfast or at lunch, it is not the dose the label describes. That is why the label does not offer a "take it when you remember" option. It simply moves on to the next morning.

Why one missed morning is not a restart

From the label

Semaglutide elimination half-life is approximately one week

With a half-life of about a week, the semaglutide already in the body does not disappear overnight. The label adds that it is still present for about five weeks after the last tablet. One skipped morning lowers the level a little; it does not take you back to the first day. The label gives no rule for restarting the dose steps after a gap, and several missed days in a row are a question for your prescriber.

What it means in practice

  • You wake up late and have already had coffee: skip today, take the tablet tomorrow morning as usual.
  • You remember in the afternoon: same answer, skip.
  • You are not sure whether you took it: the label's limit is one tablet a day. If in doubt, do not take a second one.

The other two pills

The Wegovy pill has the same rule, word for word. Foundayo, a different molecule taken with or without food, has a different one: take the missed dose as soon as possible. Each has its own answer.

Oolite shows a missed morning as an open dot on the week, and the next morning's reminder comes at the usual time.

Questions people ask

I remembered at lunch. Can I still take it?

Not by the label. The tablet only works the way it was tested on an empty stomach in the morning, followed by 30 minutes without food or drink. A dose remembered later in the day is a missed dose: skip it and take the next one tomorrow morning.

Should I take two tomorrow to make up for it?

No. The label is explicit: do not take more than one tablet per day. Doubling up is not a way to catch up.

Does one missed day mean I have to start the dose steps again?

The label gives no restart rule for the tablets: its only instruction is to skip and carry on the next day. Semaglutide leaves the body slowly, with a half-life of about one week, so one missed morning is not a reset. Several missed days in a row are a question for your prescriber.

Is the rule the same for Rybelsus?

Yes. Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets share one label, and the missed-dose sentence is the same for both.
